BRENTWOOD, CA — When it comes to improving dental technology, there can be no bigger advancement than replacing the drills that have evoked fear out of dental patients for decades. Remarkably, the new technology not only replaces dental drills, it is completely opposite to a drill.
This technology, air abrasion treatment, utilizes the power of pressurized air to treat cavities by removing dental caries (tooth decay), plaque, and other harmful agents that wreak havoc on teeth. According to the Consumer Guide to Dentistry, a fine stream of particles is aimed at the damaged part of the tooth. The particles gently remove the tooth decay and the decay is harmlessly removed by suction.
The particles that remove tooth decay consist of silica and aluminum oxide or baking soda comments Dr. Neda Naim, Brentwood dentist, who has been using air abrasion technology for years at her Brentwood general dentistry practice. (more…)

LOS ANGELES, CA — Unfortunately, most people live lifestyles that don’t exactly foster sparkly white teeth. Coffee, soda, tobacco, red wine, and tea are just a few things that leave their mark on teeth but are highly integrated into our daily lives. Thankfully, dentists have developed whitening technologies to undo embarrassing off-white and yellow smiles.
There are over-the-counter products such as whitening strips, toothpastes, mouthwash, and even floss that are all claimed to help whiten teeth. But, for the brightest shades of white and the fastest results, many doctors are recommending the Zoom! Whitening System and other professional whitening systems.

WESTWOOD, CA — With all of the attention that breast cancer and other cancers like Hodgkin’s, prostate, ovarian, and pancreatic cancer attract, so few people think to check for cancer in the mouth. But, each year over 35,000 people are diagnosed with oral cancer. And according to the American Cancer Society, about 25% of oral cancer patients will die of the disease within five years of diagnosis.
According to the ADA, oral cancer can develop on the lips, gum tissue, inner cheek, tongue, roof of the mouth, or in the throat. The ADA also notes that tobacco and alcohol use are the top risk factors for oral cancer, but this disease can develop without any warning.
Although oral cancer can develop without any symptoms, there are several key symptoms people should recognize and check for to catch the cancer early. The Consumer’s Guide to Dentistry notes that continuous pain in the mouth, sores or bumps, oral lesions, difficulty moving the mouth and jaw, difficulty swallowing or chewing, sore throats, bumps in the neck, excessive pain in one ear, unexplained bleeding from the tongue, gums, or checks, or numbness in a specific area of the mouth or jaw could all point to the presence of cancerous cells.

BRENTWOOD, CA — Throughout the month of October, Brentwood, CA dentist Dr. Neda Naim is providing free consultation appointments individuals considering dental implant treatment.
Dr. Naim is a Brenwood, CA dental implants specialist who has provided hundreds of patients with natural looking, durable tooth implants. “Dental implants are truly a complete dental solution when it comes to restoring a natural looking, natural feeling mouth,” said Dr. Naim. “Dental implants replicate the feeling of real teeth to the extent that many patients forget they even have implants.”
Dental implants, unlike other restorative methods such as dentures and bridges, do not require support from surrounding teeth. Rather, the implant is anchored in the gum much like a real tooth. This saves patients from sacrificing their natural teeth to support a cosmetic restorative and makes the process of replacing implants far less severe compared to replacing other types of dental implants notes the Brentwood, CA cosmetic dentist. September 3, 2009 — WEST LOS ANGELES, CA — Even people with the best dental hygiene can have problems with cavities. But, thanks to diagnostic oral laser technology, dentists can literally see a cavity coming before tooth decay arrives.
Traditional methods of examining the oral cavity for cavities include visual inspection, magnified visual exams, or adjuncts to visual exams such as probes or X-rays of the oral cavity. But, visual exams and even X-rays can be misleading. For example, teeth often have discolorations that resemble a cavity. This often leads dentists to hold off on removing a cavity or operating on a tooth that is only discolored. However, diagnostic lasers use a light wavelength that only reacts to oral lesions in or on the tooth.
West LA cosmetic dentist Dr. Neda Naim uses the DIAGNOdent laser detection tool to examine her patient’s teeth and identify cavities forming in the early stages. According to the doctor, the tool significantly improves the visual and radiographic images of a tooth compared to other detection. This allows doctors and hygienists to better evaluate the presence of dental caries on the surface of the tooth or even submerged dental caries.
