Los Angeles Dentistry Expert Prevents Major Health Hazards with Snore Guard

LOS ANGELES, CA — Whether it’s a cavity, root canal, cleaning or braces, we all rely on dentists to keep our mouths clean and sparkling. So, why do dentists like Los Angeles dentistry expert, Dr. Neda Naim, DDS provide other treatments such as snore guards?

The answer is quite simple. Dentists are experts of the mouth, gums, and jaw. One major cause of snoring and sleep apnea comes from airway blockage by the lower jaw. In these cases, a dentist provides a patient with a snore guard that keeps the lower jaw from shifting back and blocking the throat’s breathing passages. Next, one may ask: How does a snore guard provide other health benefits besides a cure for snoring?

In many cases, snoring is a symptom of sleep apnea. According to the American Dental Association (ADA) Sleep apnea is a medical condition in which an individual ceases to breathe or breathing is hindered during sleep. These breathing irregularities can lead to major health issues such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, memory impairment, and many other problems as well. Sleep apnea also causes sleep deprivation, which effects concentration and energy levels while awake. Also, because individuals with sleep apnea cannot breathe during sleep, they wake up several times throughout the night as a reflex from asphyxiation. (more…)

Los Angeles Dentist Provides Performance Enhancing Mouthguards for All Sports

LOS ANGELES, CA — Recently, Dr. Neda Naim’s Los Angeles dentistry practice has become one of select dental practices providing Under Armour Performance Mouthwear to its lineup of custom-made sportsguards. These sportsguards are fabricated to fit the unique jawline and bite of the patient, which provides not only protection against oral injury, but performance benefits as well.

The “Armourbite” technology begins with a consultation with a certified Under Armour Mouthguard provider. For either a non-contact or contact sportsguard, dental impressions are taken as well as other measurements to provide a comfortable mouthpiece that fits perfectly and aligns the jaw to relieve TMJ pressure, tension from stress, and other dampening factors.

“The truth is that while a typical mouthpiece will protect teeth from damage, they are not optimized for vigorous activity,” says Los Angeles dentist Dr. Naim. “Normal mouthpieces do not allow for optimized breathing and actually position the jaw in a tense position, whereas the Under Armour mouthpiece provides protection, comfort, and optimal positioning that promotes breathing and relaxation during activity.” (more…)

Los Angeles Dentist Compares Inlays/Onlays to Traditional Cavity Filling Treatment

LOS ANGELES, CA — Whether it’s from irregular brushing, forgetting to floss, deeply grooved teeth, or any number of other causes, there are millions of Americans with cavities. In fact, the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) records show that 78% of Americans have had a cavity treated with a traditional dental filling. Thankfully, there are proven treatments to remove cavities and tooth decay.

But what if your dentist told you that your filling could bring about other dental complications? Would you still want a filling?

Most people have heard of or seen fillings, but what they don’t know is that this cavity treatment can weaken the stability of the natural tooth. According to Los Angeles dentist Dr. Neda Naim, the ultraviolet (UV) light used to solidify the filling material can weaken a person’s natural tooth by up to 50%.

There is, however, an alternate treatment that not only provides a better fitted filling, but also strengthens the tooth’s stability rather than deteriorating it. This treatment is known as inlay and onlay dental treatment or indirect fillings. (more…)

LA Dentist Uses More Durable Cavity Treatment than Traditional Fillings

LOS ANGELES, CA — With the use of inlay and onlay cavity treatment, LA dentist Dr. Neda Naim is providing more durable cavity solutions than traditional fillings for single tooth and multiple tooth cavity treatment.

Inlays and onlays correct any tooth decay or cavities that form on either the points of a tooth (cusps) or the grooves in the center of the tooth. Whereas traditional dental fillings are placed on the damaged area and hardened with a UV light without any impressions, inlays and onlays are molded to the damaged area after impressions are taken. Using dental imagery for impressions and avoiding the use of potentially harmful UV light makes for a more precise cavity solution and does significantly less damage to the tooth.

“Fillings were a fine cavity treatment, but it has its faults,” exclaims Dr. Naim, one of California’s top LA dentists. “The point of cavity treatment is to stop tooth decay and save the natural tooth. But, while traditional fillings remove cavities, it can make a tooth up to 50% weaker. Inlays and onlays provide up to a 75% boost to a tooth’s stability and provide precisely fitted molds for teeth.” (more…)

Brentwood Dentist Boasts Benefits of Air Abrasion for Cavity Removal

BRENTWOOD, CA — When it comes to improving dental technology, there can be no bigger advancement than replacing the drills that have evoked fear out of dental patients for decades. Remarkably, the new technology not only replaces dental drills, it is completely opposite to a drill.

This technology, air abrasion treatment, utilizes the power of pressurized air to treat cavities by removing dental caries (tooth decay), plaque, and other harmful agents that wreak havoc on teeth. According to the Consumer Guide to Dentistry, a fine stream of particles is aimed at the damaged part of the tooth. The particles gently remove the tooth decay and the decay is harmlessly removed by suction.

The particles that remove tooth decay consist of silica and aluminum oxide or baking soda comments Dr. Neda Naim, Brentwood dentist, who has been using air abrasion technology for years at her Brentwood general dentistry practice. (more…)

WESTWOOD, CA — With all of the attention that breast cancer and other cancers like Hodgkin’s, prostate, ovarian, and pancreatic cancer attract, so few people think to check for cancer in the mouth. But, each year over 35,000 people are diagnosed with oral cancer. And according to the American Cancer Society, about 25% of oral cancer patients will die of the disease within five years of diagnosis.

According to the ADA, oral cancer can develop on the lips, gum tissue, inner cheek, tongue, roof of the mouth, or in the throat. The ADA also notes that tobacco and alcohol use are the top risk factors for oral cancer, but this disease can develop without any warning.

Although oral cancer can develop without any symptoms, there are several key symptoms people should recognize and check for to catch the cancer early. The Consumer’s Guide to Dentistry notes that continuous pain in the mouth, sores or bumps, oral lesions, difficulty moving the mouth and jaw, difficulty swallowing or chewing, sore throats, bumps in the neck, excessive pain in one ear, unexplained bleeding from the tongue, gums, or checks, or numbness in a specific area of the mouth or jaw could all point to the presence of cancerous cells.
